The Putra Square (Malay: Dataran Putra) is a city square located opposite the Prime Minister’s office complex, Perdana Putra, in Putrajaya, Malaysia. The square has been used for festivals such as the Malaysian Independence Day parade. The 300 meter circular Putra Square is bounded by Perdana Putra, Putra Mosque, Putra Bridge and the Promenade Shopping Mall.

Designed as two concentric plazas surrounded by Putra Perdana Park, the circular ceremonial area is an open hard landscape encircled by Charbaghs, which acts as a transition between the parks and the ceremonial area. Inside the Charbagh is an interplay of paths, water channels, flower beds and trees.

The Square is divided into 11 segments, in the pattern of an 11-pointed star. The outer 11-pointed star represents the 11 states of Malaya when the country gained independence in August 1957, the inner 13-pointed star the 13 states that formed Malaysia in 1963 and the 14-pointed star includes the new addition of the Federal Territory. The progressive arrangements of the different pointed stars finally culminate in a circle at the centre of the Square. The circle symbolises the ultimate goal of unity.

The Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin Mosque, or Iron Mosque (Malay: Masjid Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin or Masjid Besi) is the second principal mosque in Putrajaya, Malaysia after Putra Mosque. It is located in Putrajaya’s Presint 3, next to Millennium Monument. Construction began since April 2004 and was fully completed on August 2009. It was officially opened on Friday at the eve of the month of Ramadhan 1430 Hijra.

The mosque was built to cater to approximately 24,000 residents including the government servants working around the city center as well as areas within Presint 2, 3, 4 and 18. Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin Mosque’s area is twice that of Putra Mosque, which is located 2.2 kilometers north. The mosque was officially opened on 4 September 2009 by the 13th Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin. Its construction was done by Ahmad Zaki Resources Berhad (AZRB) a well known public listed Malay contractor which not only have projects in Malaysia but also in India and Saudi Arabia as well.

The mosque was designed based on three concepts; wind, simplicity and transparency. Approximately 6,000 tonnes of steel was used in the construction, which is 70% of the material used; the rest is concrete.

The “Iron Mosque” features a district cooling system, and without assembly of fans or an air conditioning system. The mosque employs “Architectural Wire Mesh” imported from Germany and China, which is also constructed at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium in Madrid, as well as the Bibliothèque nationale de France in Paris. The main entrance is reinforced with Glass Reinforced Concrete to increase the integrity of the structure and uses fine glass to create an illusion of a white mosque from afar.

When completed, the path towards the mosque will cross a skyway known as the Kiblat Walk which stretches an area of 13,639 m². This skyway contains landscaping adapted from the ancient castles of Alhambra. The interior will be decorated with Al-Asmaul-Husna calligraphy of the Thuluth variation. The entrance to the main prayer hall will be adorned with verse 80 of Sura Al-Isra from the Qur’an.

This is also added with the Mihrab wall made of 13 meter-high glass panel imported from Germany inscribed with 2 verses from Sura Al-Baqarah on the right-hand side and Sura Ibrahim on the left. The mihrab wall is designed so that no light will be reflected, creating an illusion that the verses are floating on air. The 40-feet long edges of the mosque’s roof are able to shelter the people praying outside of the main prayer hall from rain.

This is the Malaysia’s National Millenium Monument and is located in Putrajaya, the new Federal Territory of Malaysia. The obelisk-like, amber-coloured monument in Precinct 2 was built as a timeline, marking Malaysia’s historical milestones from the formation of the Malacca sultanate, through independence, and to the present day.

Work on the tourist attraction began in July 2002 and was to have been completed a year later. But, the monument was closed soon after its launch on Aug 30, 2003 due to “structural defects and drainage problems”. It was reopened in late October 2005.

The 68-metr tall, amber-coloured historical monument in Precinct 2 is uniquely shaped like an obelisk with etchings on the transparent panels along the walkway denoting important periods and milestones in the nation’s history. The futuristic-looking structure also resembles a rocket poised for launch.

The overall design of the monument is based on an abstract of the national flower, the hibiscus, while the colour and texture reflect the betel leaf case. Aluminium cladding protects the entire monument. Incribed on the sides of the obelisk are the Rukun Negara (the principles which guide and govern the country).

At night, the monument serves as a beacon with strong light projected at 360 degrees and sweeping lights visible from various locations in Putrajaya. The lights also guide the cruise boats.

Although news reports mentioned cruise boats stopping at the monument, the one cruise boat I saw didn’t stop. I saw the same boat cruising back to the dock on its return trip, and it didn’t even slow down.

The National Library (Perpustakaan Negara Malaysia) is in-built with diverse functions and services; supported by highly advanced facilities to put forward the best it can give to the public.

Officiated by former Deputy Prime Minister YAB Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim on 16 th December 1994, the opening ceremony of the National Library of Malaysia marked a significant occasion. The National Library is housed under the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Tourism today.

Occupying 2.2 hectares, the Library proudly reflects a Malaysian identity in terms of the building’s design. The design was conceptualized using the idea of the traditional Malay headgear – the tengkolok, which symbolizes pride and respect of our nation’s culture. The tengkolok-shaped roofs cap an open-air amphitheatre space; symbolizing the unity of our country.

The National Library is responsible for providing to the public an accumulated knowledge at national level and no less for present and future generations to come. To continuously strengthen their collection, the National Library continuously acquires increasing numbers of publications. The current collections are divided into Malaysiana Collection, Rare Collection, Manuscripts, Serials, General Monograph Collection, Media Resources, Borrowing, United Nations Publications and the National Collection.

The National Planetarium or more locally known as the Planetarium Negara, is a picturesque building made up of a blue-domed structure that sits atop a hill at Jalan Perdana. It was opened on 7 th February 1994 and boasts of a Space Theatre, Space Science Exhibit, Resource Centre, Viewing Gallery and an Observatory Park all within its midst.

This centre is a smart combination of advanced technology and traditional Islamic architecture. Gracing visitors with high-tech resources and educational entertainment, the National Planetarium retains the roots of tradition and dishes a healthy dose of local culture to all who visits. Space Science Studies is a proud effort on the centre’s part to stimulate awareness of science and its wondrous inventions.

Taking up a fully-utilized 32 acres of land, the National Planetarium naturally belongs to the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment of Malaysia. The area of the building spans 120,000 square feet, and is just the place to be for learning young minds and their families!

The National Planetarium may be reputed to be an educational place, but don’t let that one assumption throw you off an adventurous ride. Its fascinating facilities are fun to explore and extremely worthwhile to spend an afternoon at. Here, you will learn interesting facts about the Universe, the galaxy, the solar system, our very own planet Earth, and so many others. One of its many attractions is the Space Theatre, which screens Space Science and Sky shows daily.

The Planetarium’s other interesting features include the “Mystery of Maya” and “Legend of the Night Sky”; both equally great ways to learn more about space and other things that lie secreted in its orbits. The cinema inside the Space Theatre shows a different movie everyday for an appealing variety. Outside of the Space Theatre, the Planetarium also offers great ‘space travel’ displays for all budding young astronauts to pore over. Space science exhibits are displayed along the walkway of the main hall, and are guaranteed to wow both the young and old. One popular exhibit is the Arianne IV space engine; originally one of the engines used to launch into space MEASAT 1, Malaysia’s first ever satellite! You can also opt to get hands-on knowledge on the Shuttle Spaceball; experience zero gravity that an astronaut feels when in space! An Observatory Park is equipped with a 14-inch telescope where visitors can view the whole stretch of galaxy and its planets. Visitors should make a trip to the Observatory Park on a full-moon day just for the view; it is truly a spectacular sight to behold!

The National Planetarium is connected to the National Museum by an overhead pedestrian bridge. Tour the National Planetarium and be infinitely amazed by what technology can put on show for you here! The centre is open everyday from 10am to 4pm except for Mondays, and the Space Shows screen at three convenient show times throughout the day at 11am, 2pm and 4pm. Adults and children pay RM3 and RM2 each respectively. As for the Space Movies, it is RM6 a piece for adults and RM4 for children.

Menara KL (more affectionately known as KL Tower) is one of the city’s pride and joy. Built in 1995, KL Tower is used for communication purposes and stands tall at 421 meters high. The structure itself is 335 meters tall and the extra height comes from an antenna which currently makes it the fifth tallest tower in the world. This tower has since been a symbol of Kuala Lumpur and its picture is widely used in many publications to promote tourism in Kuala Lumpur.

There are many things to do at KL Tower besides admiring its height and beauty. Within its compound you will be able to find a pedestrian mall, a number of restaurants, souvenir shops and an observation deck. Oddly enough, there is a certain fast food joint at KL Tower that has its prices slightly higher than all its other outlets (besides the one at KLIA and Genting Highlands). That’s the price one pays for a view. The one and only revolving restaurant in KL is also located atop KL Tower. The breathtaking 360 degree view of KL City from 276 meters above ground level is one that is memorable (and costly too).

If you are just interested in the view and not the food, a trip straight to the observation platform would suffice. Getting up there is a different story altogether. You have the choice of either taking the elevator (we suggest you do) or taking the stairs. Taking the stairs could prove to be quite an experience but it is a challenge that is not for the light hearted. We could save you the trouble of having to count the number of steps by just telling you right now. 2 058 steps in total can be found from the ground to the top. With that in mind, just take the elevator.

Other fun activities are held occasionally at KL Tower. There’s an annual race that sees participants racing to the top using the stairs. There’s also adrenaline pumping events such as BASE Jumping that are held on and off. With so many activities available, there’s something for everyone.

Everyone who visits Kuala Lumpur will definitely be able to spot KL Tower from almost anywhere in the city. Why not take it one step further and visit the site itself for it is a view that is not to be missed.

Officially opened on 17th August 1998, Dewan Filharmonik Petronas (DFP) is home to the Malaysia Philharmonic Orchestra. It is the country’s first concert hall built for the purpose of classical music. Since then, the philharmonic hall has hosted an array of world class musicians, both solo and orchestral.

Besides classical performances, Dewan Filharmonik Petronas also presents jazz, world music and traditional music performances. With a wide variety of music, DFP aims to attract an eclectic mix of visitors to its doors. Such musical presentations would also provide its visitors with the opportunity for cultural enrichment.

DFP is strategically located directly below the Petronas Twin Towers. It is easily accessible for public transportation and parking is a breeze with Suria KLCC lending its parking spaces to the music hall. Such a central location also makes it the perfect place to see the sights and engage in some shopping before and after a performance.

After nine years of being in the business of music, DFP has now become a cultural symbol of Kuala Lumpur. It is the home to the country’s very own Philharmonic Orchestra and many world renowned musicians have graced its stage over the years. Names such as Vladimir Ashkenazy, Wolfgang Sawallisch, Dame Kiri Te Kenawa and Sir Neville Marriner have all performed together with the Malaysia Philharmonic Orchestra. DFP has also played host to large ensembles such as the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Vienna Symphony and the New York Philharmonic.

Not only does DFP cater to music listeners of all kinds, it also prides itself in its enrichment activities. Music enthusiasts will be able to enjoy pre-concert talks as well as other fun activities for children and adults. DFP plays an important role in cultivating the performing arts and providing an outlet for music enthusiasts to learn and enjoy music.

Even if you’re not a musician, it will definitely be an experience to enjoy the music in DFP’s world class concert hall.

The Petronas Twin Towers have become a symbol known worldwide. What were once the world’s tallest building put Kuala Lumpur on the map and gave it the status that it rightly deserves.

The towers were designed by the renowned Norwegian architect, Dawid Tadeusz Mauno. The 88 floor towers made of glass and steel shoot up to the sky and is now a symbol etched into the city’s skyline. Below the two towers is Suria KLCC (a popular shopping mall) and Dewan Filharmonik Petronas, two of the city’s main attractions.

The two towers are used for commercial space. Tower One is occupied by Petronas as well as its subsidiaries and associate companies. Tower Two offers office space that is available for lease. Many multi national corporations have chosen to set up shop at Petronas Twin Towers because of its central location, its facilities and services, as well as the status it brings.

One of the main attractions at the Twin Towers is the Skybridge. It is a bridge between the two towers on the 41st and 42nd floor. The bridge is 170 meters high and 58 meters long. It is a sight to see and quite an experience for those who don’t suffer from vertigo. The skybridge is open to visitors but it is limited to roughly 1400 visitors per day. Passes can be obtained at but it is advisable to go grab them before noon to book your spot as these passes are snapped up pretty quickly. The Skybridge is closed to visitors on Monday’s as well as on Halloween.

Come to Naab for your next conference or board meeting, and experience the pleasures of one of the most luxurious kind in Malaysia .

Naab is the biggest Iranian dining center in Malaysia and south east Asia. With nature as the concept of the ambiance, it is a paradise of Fine Iranian Cuisine. Nothing beats the carefree experience of dining & alfresco in the heart of the capital city of Malaysia .

The Design of Naab Business & Dining Center was inspired by mud and straw textures of Yazd architecture adorned with blue tiles, an outstanding feature of Iranian and central Asian architecture. Each floor is highlighted by an attractive turquoise blue water fountain. Water symbolises the source of life and purity while the blue colour is always associated with a heavenly realm.

The earthly elements of water, mud, straw along with the timber beams on the ceilings create an over all warm ambiance that connects to mother earth.
